Description.
The Nite Ize™ Clip-On
Marker is one of a series of products that
are specifically designed to promote a high level
of pedestrian/cyclist noticability both by day and
at night. The Clip-On Marker offers has a swiveling
clip on one end and a .6" hole on the other-
for a multitude of attachment options .Activation
is afforded by a pushbutton click switch hidden beneath
the well marked nylon covering. Three modes are available.
Off, Constant On and Slow blinking. Attached to belt
loops, D-rings or other anchors, it is calculated
to be as exposed as possible to traffic so as to avert
an accident. As a non-traffic marker the
Nite Ize™ Clip-On Marker is equally
effective in waypoint location or for signifying direction.
Attached to a motor vehicle, it could serve well as
an emergency road flare.
ACTIGLO are a family of products that use a combination
of brilliant light transmitting LED'S (light emitting
diodes) with flexible hot-melt adhesive thermoplastics.
This innovative light transmission process provides
an array of brilliantly colored illuminated polymer
lenses for Actiglo™ performance illumination
products which range from illuminated arm and ankle
bands to Clip-On markers. What is most interesting
about Actiglo is that the main glowing or emitting
section is totally flexible and because it's non conductive-
intrinsically safe. Furthermore, the outer sheath
has three functions. In full daylight is fluoresces
with the base color (usually red). With the LED Off,
it's surface is reflective to specular lights from
automobile or bicycle lamps. With the LED On, it has
refractive properties that project, distribute and
magnify the luminous core of flexible plastic. The
net effect is quite bright and attention getting as
a large surface area of light emanates from Actiglow
enabled products. This has the net result of making
markers and bands stand out clearly from otherwise
poorly illuminated subjects. Because they are flat,
the Clip-on markers have a low and conforming profile
on the wearer- making them more comfortable, practical
and visible characteristics desirable for active users.
In addition they are far less likely to be knocked
off or fall off the wearer, than other bulkier or
heavier solutions might be.

Evaluation Results & Conclusions...
Ease of Use
Excellent . Requires very little learning
. Familiar functional model. No cognitive overhead
. We attached the markers to numerous appropriate
anchors using the highly tenacious plastic clip. Removal
was sometimes trying as the clip design is calculated
to positively engage with fabric edges even when only
partially inserted . Formed into a loop by attaching
the clip end to the hole end, allowed for 'wrapping'
of the marker around poles, over rope lines and around
back-pack loops. In this fashion it's also possible
to attach a marker to a bicycle seat post for effective
180º visibility at the rear. Individuals with the
appropriate sized arms may use the markers as 'bands'
for safe jogging and running. Activating the switch
is as easy and depressing the International symbol
for On/Off that is clearly printed in fluorescent
green on the switch side of the marker. One click
turns it constantly On and a second click puts it
in a slowly blinking state. A third click turns it
back Off.

Task performance optimization
Excellent . Accomplishes the task of making
an otherwise obscure person or object noticeable,
especially in traffic .Tested as highly noticeable
at one mile in clear visibility (Night time) . Noticeable
and effective for around 200' in daylight.

Durability
Long term and stress tests have not been
performed. First impressions are that in normal use
they are durable. Based on continuous everyday use
for 4 months we have provisionally given this product
a durability rating of:

Adaptability
Within the constraints of it's design, the
Clip-on Marker is a suitable problem solver in several
domains and may be compatible with
a variety of products that would benefit from the
unique properties of the flexible Actiglo technology.
Enclosed in a waterproof plastic zip-lock type bag
or other waterproof container, it is then submersible,
increasing its potential as a water sports marker/beacon.
