Description..

The Lightman strobe units are compact, lightweight battery powered triangular illumination flashers or beacons that are made of impact resistant plastic. They are used to mark a vehicle, scene or person in such a manner that signals to emergency vehicles, oncoming traffic and persons that caution must be exercised in approaching the scene. Due to a thoughtfully designed range of mounting accessories, the Lightman Strobes have personal, police, fire, rescue, traffic emergency, industrial, hobbyist as well as outdoor applications.They can be mounted to vehicles, belts, sunvisors, traffic cones, reflective triangles, guard rails, clothing, and backpacks. The Basic Kit Includes: 1, Lightman Strobe, a belt clip, a magnet, an all-purpose eyelet, a suction cup, and a soft black vinyl pouch for containing the entire kit. Optional kits include:

Unlike products that depend on potentially hazardous flammable chemicals to create an attention getting flare, the Lightman strobes are part of a growing family of emergency safety products that use reliable solid state components for safe, durable and long lasting illumination. By using two common AA size batteries (rechargeable NIMH recommended) , the Lightman Strobe is also an economical and environmentally friendly alternative to disposable flares. We judged the product to be durable and well made and the access to the battery compartment secure, yet easy enough to breech with a coin. The rubber sealed On/Off switch is responsive and sure- instilling confidence that the Lightman Strobe will not fail the user either in daily use or in emergencies. We performed our customary drop test from 6' onto concrete and asphalt and the product remained intact and neither split open nor broke after three tries on each surface. No claim is made for resistance to direct impact from a moving motor vehicle or for crush resistance in the event a unit is run over.

Ease of Use
Excellent . Requires very little learning for use and basic instruction (included) for battery replacement. Intuitive functional model. No cognitive overhead. Customers are instructed to use a coin, screwdriver or other similar object to pry open and separate the colored lens from the unit base. Two AA size batteries are then inserted in correct orientation into the two respective slots. The colored triangular lens is then snapped on in no particular orientation to ensure a tight seal has been made with the base. In a similar manner to switching on battery powered bicycle warning lights, the sky blue rubber switch is depressed to turn the unit on. After a momentary latency, it starts flashing and continues for hours before loosing brightness and stopping. To turn the unit off, the user re-presses the blue click switch.

Task performance optimization
Effectively accomplishes the task of clearly signaling a warning to,or calling the attention of oncoming vehicles or persons .Users must remember to keep a set or two of the required batteries handy - since the units will not work without power.There is no low battery power indicator so either lithium batteries should be used (for infrequent use) or units containing batteries should be tested periodically. To prevent battery leakage, it's recommeded that batteries be removed for long term storage. The Lightman Cone Illuminator kit is an excellent way to turn standard traffic cones into flashing emergency flares. Either pre-assembled or assembled on site - cones thus equipped extend the usefullness of both trafic cones as well as Lightman Strobes on hand for effective night time traffic management.

Durability
Long term tests have not been done. First impression . Replacement frequency will depend on variables such as frequency of dismantling / re-assembly, roughness of use, exposure to UV and heat/cold as well as other unpredictable factors. Based on continuous everyday use for six weeks we have provisionally given this product a durability rating of:

Adaptability
Within the constraints of it's design the Lightman Strobe is a suitable problem solver in several domains and may be compatible with a variety of third party products- especially ones that are designed to conform to Lightman accessory specifications. As an example, the thread size used for attachment at the back of the unit is the universal standard for photographic equipment- 1/4" X20. As a result, any photographic accessory that terminates in a 1/4"X20 male thread will fit perfectly into the back of the Lightman Strobe.This not only opens up a plethora of solutions using existing hardware, but also makes designing context and task specific solutions as easy as a visit to a neighborhood hardware store.
As illustrated - the Lightman Strobe is available in an LED version that uses a cluster of superbright 10mm LEDs instead of a xenon flash tube. The LED version is recommended in situations where either a constant or an intermittent light is desired. The same lenses that fit the xenon version, fit the LED version as well. The LED Lightman Strobe has the added advantage of being more durable to shock and having the ability to give continuous light in addition to one flash per/second strobe. The Cone Illuminator kit is a durable plastic plate designed to hold the Lightman Strobe via its1/4"X20 thread and a bolt (provided). A hole in the adapter plate allows for access to the On/Off switch. Once mounted to the plate the Lightman Strobe is then jammed into the bottom of a 12" - 24" traffic cone and switched on.
