Description.
The Glow-Toob FX is one of a
family of nearly identical products, with the FX version
being the most recent as of this writing . Essentially,
the Glow-Toob is a small device about the size of
a single AA size battery that serves multiple purposes
depending on the context of use. It's basically a
self illuminating marker that depending on the chosen
setting can send one of several 'messages' to the
observer. As such it can be used as a constant beam
illuminator for helping illuminate tasks or it may
be used as a throbbing, flashing or SOS beacon for
various functions. The Glow-Toob is waterproof and
pressure resistant to an astounding 11,500 feet- making
it an excellent choice for divers of all stripe. It's
rugged epoxy and aluminum construction also makes
it a good choice for marking military personnel, materiel
or for marking first responders of all stripe. In
ordinary civilian contexts it's an effective vehicle
or pedestrian safety marker, outdoor sports marker
to mention but a few contexts. Since it gives off
a decidedly omni-directional glow of light, it excels
in circumstances that prefer such a beam characteristic
rather than a directional beam. Being as lightweight
as it is, the Glow-Toob is an excellent pet marker
and is of a build quality that far exceeds that of
other such devices that are often sold at about the
same price for the pet owner." The GLO-TOOB FX
- has all the features of our original unit, except
the FX has new multi-mode technology built in. What
does that mean? Well, the user can select 1 of 7 different
operational modes! In addition to this, the user can
select a locked or preferred mode - this is the mode
the unit will activate when it is switched on.
Much the same as the original GLO-TOOB, the GLO-TOOB
FX is available in 5 colors - red, amber, blue, Night
Vision compatible green and white. It is powered by
an inexpensive 12V alkaline battery. It also has the
same durability and waterproof properties of the original
Glow Toob- all of which will ensure a lifetime of
use.
The most remarkable feature of the Glow-Toob FX is
the sheer brightness of the illumination that it generates.
As a result of an astutely formulated internal reflection
system, the resultant beam the issues from the Glow-Toob
FX begins to rival the type of light one might expect
from Xenon flash tubes - often used in flashing markers
and beacons.
Maintenance Instructions:
1. Exposure to saltwater:
After saltwater exposure it is highly recommended
that the GLO-TOOB is rinsed in warm, fresh water and
then dried. This will reduce the possibility of corrosion
and extend the life of your GLO-TOOB.
2. On/Off Switch Pin
A build-up of dirt on the ON/OFF switch pin can affect
the operation of your GLO-TOOB. In order to prevent
this, remove the cap then turn the switch to the ON
position - this will expose the ON/OFF switch pin
on the inside of the cap. Clean the top of this pin
with spirits and dry afterwards. Replace the cap on
the GLO-TOOB.
3. O-Ring
The O-Ring on the inside of the cap must be checked
each time before the GLO-TOOB is submerged in water.
If the O-Ring is cracked or cut, replace the O-Ring
immediately. Also, check for general cleanliness of
the O-Ring to ensure that particles do not affect
the watertight seal.
4. Battery
The battery is a replaceable 12V SUPER ALKALINE, SIZE
23A. The positive (+ve) side must be inserted first,
so that the negative (-ve) side is facing up when
the battery is sitting inside the tube.
Leaking batteries can corrode the inside of your GLO-TOOB.
In line with this, it is recommended that you open
your GLO-TOOB once a month and check your battery
for signs of leakage and/or corrosion. It is also
recommended that you remove the battery from your
GLO-TOOB and store them separately if used infrequently.

Evaluation Results & Conclusions...
Ease of Use
Fair to poor. Requires a fair amount of practice
to develop proficiency in executing mode changes.Non-intuitive
functional model. Significant cognitive overhead .It's
unfortunate that the superb performance of an active
Gloo-Toob FX is not matched by an easy learning curve.
The operational procedure is as follows:
"SELECTING A MODE
The new GLO-TOOB FX allows you to select 1 of its
7 modes as your LOCKED mode.This LOCKED mode is the
mode the unit will activate when you turn it on. In
order to select or modify your LOCKED mode, follow
these simple steps.
STEP 1:
Switch the GLO-TOOB FX on - count 5 seconds and then
switch the unit off and then on again (this will activate
the LOCKED mode programming sequence).
STEP 2:
Now, by repeatedly turning the unit on and off you
will cycle through the 7 different pre-programmed
modes.
STEP 3:
In order to select and store a new LOCKED mode, leave
the unit on that particular mode for 4 seconds or
longer.
When you switch the unit off and on again, it will
activate your new LOCKED mode. Repeat STEPS 1-3 if
you would like to change your LOCKED mode again.

Task performance optimization
Excellent . Accomplishes the task of marking
and signaling as well as providing area illumination
very well indeed.Tested as highly noticeable to the
naked eye at 1Km on a clear night for Green. Night
vision delectability for well over 2 Km. It's possible
to light a 12' X 15' room with a single Glow-Toob
FX at 100% power. At 25% power it makes an excellent
tent light. It is very noticeable from a distance
of 1Km by motor vehicles.It was not tested in dive
situations.

Durability
Long term and stress tests have not been
performed. First impressions are that in normal use
they are durable. Based on continuous everyday use
for 4 months we have provisionally given this product
