Description..
There are several non-chemical and
non-incendiary traffic signal wands currently on the
market- the
14 LED Baton is currently one of the largest
of the pack. Having the dual function of a hand-held
wand as well as a roadside emergency beacon makes
it unique in a class containing products that fulfill
either one or the other task but not both. The longer
dimensions of the 14
LED Baton make it more effective in both drawing
attention from afar as well as for marshalling traffic
as it nears the scene of an emergency. Weighing about
the same as a popular 2XD-cell flashlight, it's light
enough for almost anyone to use comfortably. The use
of fluorescent (day-glow) red in the LED casing, means
that it has very good daytime visibility as well.In
addition the refractive/reflective material used in
the illumination housing are highly relective to oncoming
vehicle headlights making it an excellent 'passive'
caution flare in the event that it's batteries run
out and replacements cannot be immmediately provided.
By using ultra-bright and long life 5mm LED's instead
of incandescent bulbs, costly and awkward bulb replacements
are eliminated .Somewhat resembling a 'light saber'
the 14
LED Baton is easy to wield and the rubber covered
pushbutton switch is effective though not as responsive
to the touch as it could be. A thoughtful wrist lanyard
mitigates against an accidental dropping-especially
under duress or in highly adverse conditions. Lacking
an included stand of any type, it's assumed that this
wand is destined to be used in one's hand or simply
laid on the ground. Police and Sheriff's Department
Officers, Valet Parking, School Traffic Safety Officers,
Road Construction Crews, Emergency Responders or anyone
who needs a highly visible light for traffic safety
will find this product a valuable tool in managing
traffic and mitigating against accidents.

Evaluation Results & Conclusions...
Ease of Use
Excellent . Requires very little learning
if any. Intuitive functional model. No cognitive overhead
. Loading the batteries entails a simple unscrewing
of the handle from the wand and inserting two fresh
C-cell batteries (positive ends up towards the wand).
Activation occurs when the bottom-most semi-circular,
rubber covered switch button is depressed. This is
a simple On/Off activation with no momentary or 'Morse
Code' signaling capability. The topmost semi-circular
button allows for a mode change between constant On
and flashing. Because this is a separate button, it
operates independantly of the On/Off button, allowing
for a pre-set mode. It is primarily intended as a
hand-held wand though it may also be laid flat on
the ground or otherwise propped up for hands-free
use. Unfortunately, no accessory stand or mounting
option is curently available.

Task performance optimization
Excellent . Accomplishes the task of clearly
signaling a warning to oncoming vehicles or for directing
traffic to move in a specific manner. The longness
of the wand allows for effective functionality at
a greater distance and/or with a more obvious signaling
effect- especially in circumstances involving high
speed traffic or inclement environmental conditions.
Smaller wands would be useful in situations where
the traffic was moving more slowly , distances between
traffic control and vehicles closer, or visibility
not impaired. Projection of the simultaneously
flashing LED light array inside the red casing is
excellent- with bright light emanating from all around
the casing as well as from the very tip of the wand.
Projection is nearly spherical with only a disc the
diameter of the handle being blocked from view.
Unfortunately, no accessory stand or mounting
option is curently available, making it less attractive
than other similar options that do include dedicated
accessory stands.

Durability
Long term tests have not been done. First
impression . Replacement frequency will depend on
variables such as frequency of dismantling / re-assembly,
roughness of use, exposure to UV and heat/cold as
well as other unpredictable factors. Based on concrete
and drop tests that we've conducted, we've provisionally
given this product a durability rating of:

Adaptability/Suitability
Within the constraints of it's design,The
LED Light/14 LED Baton is a suitable
problem solver in contexts for which it is intended
to be used- that is: signaling a road hazard emergency
or directing traffic under most anticipated circumstances.
We did not torture test this product, not
did we subject it to the widest possible range of
situations. No claim is being made for suitability,
durability or effectiveness.
